YogaTrex is proud to partner with Stan Hafner to offer this original learning experience. All levels are welcome, but a genuine desire to learn is required. Whether you wish to teach entirely in the Desikachar method of Viniyoga, or add it to your current repertoire, or if would like to go deeper with your practice, this program will provide you with the necessary tools. This is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Registered program that will take place at Ananda Cottages in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, August 1-28, 2010.
Stan Hafner will be the lead teacher and will provide in-depth asana instruction covering the mechanics of the postures, and their related advantages, disadvantages, counterposes, and contraindications. There will be particular attention toward vinyasa krama, the intelligent sequencing and structuring of a yoga practice for yourself and your students. You will learn how to read and understand abilities and limitations in yourself and others, along with how to effectively convey your knowledge of yoga to others. In his daily talks, Stan will provide his special insight into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and philosophy for day-to-day life. In addition, the program delves deeply into the concept of yogic discipline, and how to take a yogic stance in life. And overall, the course is a practical guide for experiencing the joy of life.
Johanna Sullivan will teach philosophy and lead chants of the sutras. She has 36 years of yoga experience, and an extensive teaching background.
Jerry Kuhlman is the organizer of this training. He will be responsible for logistics. He has done business in Bali as an importer and documentary filmmaker, producing a film about the life rituals of Bali. He is uniquely qualified to open the doors to an in-depth Bali experience. He will also teach meditation and conduct one-on-one coaching sessions covering the business of yoga, or how to use yogic principles in a non-yoga business, whichever applies. With his extensive, and varied background in business, yoga studio ownership, and yoga instruction, he will help each student determine where they're at and where they would like to go with their work life, then help them get there, ultimately turning the process into a living meditation. Jerry has had a dedicated yoga practice since 1973.
Eva Kuhlman will teach in-depth anatomy. With her extensive background in orthopedics, yoga instruction, and yoga studio ownership, she is uniquely qualified to bring the theory of anatomy into the practicalities of a yoga practice. She makes anatomy fun. Eva has been devoted to the practice of yoga since 2001.

ABOUT YOUR STAY IN BALI
Flight information - Bali is a small island that sits slightly below the equator and is approximately halfway around the world from the east coast of the USA. The current time zone is EST +13, CST+14, MST+15, and PST+16. During summer hours or daylight savings time the time zone is EDT+12, CDT+13, MDT+14, and PDT+15. Many major airlines fly there. We've found that some of the least expensive airfares to Bali can be found on BaliAdvisor.com. Otherwise, for the cheapest fares, check with the online services, such as Kayak.com, Orbitz.com or Travelocity.com. You will fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, the largest town in Bali. Once your flight is booked, forward the details, and we will arrange your transportation from the airport to Ananda Cottages in Ubud, which is approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours from the airport.
Visas
~Your passport must be valid for six months from your date of entry into Indonesia
~You must have proof of onward passage out of Indonesia (return or through tickets)
~On arrival you will complete a disembarkation-embarkation document. Half of this document is retained and presented on departure. Do not lose this card or you will have problems when leaving.
~A long list of countries, including the USA, are eligible for 30 day visas on arrival which will cost $25, and it's an easy process. There's also a short list of countries from which no visa is required. Go to the Bali Paradise web site to see these lists.
~30 day visas on arrival can not be extended or converted into a different visa. Overstaying this type of visa is not recommended, as there will be substantial per diem charges on departure. If you plan on staying is Indonesia longer than 30 days, you will have to obtain a visa through the appropriate embassy or consulate in your country of origin. You may also leave Indonesia and come back to obtain a brand new 30 day visa on arrival. If you see that you will be overstaying a 30 day visa on arrival, this is the easiest and most likely cheapest way to extend your visa. Singapore is the closest turn-around flight.
~There will be a departure tax of 150,000Rp or a little more than $15 USD at current exchange rates. Remember to have this much in Indonesian currency available as you are leaving Bali. It will be your last expense in rupiahs.
What to Bring
~Breathable yoga clothing that shows the contours of the legs and ankles (no loose pants)
~Breathable casual clothing - Bali in close to the equator, so the climate is gently tropical with nighttime temperatures in the 70's and daytime temperatures frequently in the 80's, sometimes in the low 90's. It's a very comfortable climate.
~Poncho or rain jacket - though July and August are in the dry season, be prepared for the occasional rain.
~Swimsuit, or swimming shorts
~Sandals, ones that are easy to take off as the Balinese don't wear shoes indoors.
~Walking/running shoes (activities include hiking, swimming, rafting, biking, and more)
~A sunhat
~Sunscreen
~Insect repellent
~Yoga mat, 1 yoga strap, 1 yoga blanket, 1 yoga rug
~Small first aid kit
~A notebook
~Pens and paper
~Small flashlight
There are number of nice shops in Ubud, so leave room in your bag. Also, leave room for your teacher training manual for the return trip.
Meals
YogaTrex is responsible for your breakfast at Ananda Cottages from August 1 to August 28, and lunch will be included at Indus Restaurant across the street on training days only. Dinner each day and lunch for non-training days will be your responsibility. There are a number of quality restaurants close by and in Ubud proper that range in price for very cheap to moderately expensive. This is one the highlights of Ubud and much of Bali...the food is great and inexpensive.
Temple Attire
Anyone visiting a temple must tie a sash around the waist. And most temples require exposed legs to be covered with a sarong, especially if there's a ceremony taking place. Men may be required to wear a head cloth, and a short overskirt over a sarong at important temple celebrations or cremations. Some temples have sarongs and sashes that can be borrowed for a small donation, but it's best to purchase your own in the Ubud market for as little as $10. Bared shoulders, exposed midriffs, or, in general, showing lots of skin is inappropriate. Of course, bathing suits are allowed by swimming pools or at the beach, but if you venture beyond those areas, please, cover up.
Money Matters
Banks and money changers can exchange your currency or travelers' checks, but for convenience use one of the many ATM's in Ubud. It takes less time and exchange rates are competitive. Visa and MasterCard are honored in this part of the world, but few places take American Express. The local currency is rupiahs. The current rate (February 2010) is 9400Rp per US dollar. In general, almost everything is allot cheaper in Bali. You will be amazed.
Phone and Internet Access
There are a few phone offices in Ubud where one can place calls for a small fee. That's the best way to go if you don't expect to make many calls. It's remotely possible to use your cell phone in Bali, but most likely it would be much cheaper to buy a GSM phone locally for approximately $25-30 USD, and buy a Sim card. The rates, both local and international are absurdly cheap. If you are bringing a laptop, you may use a Voip service, such as Skype. Start an account if you don't have one, bring a headset and you're in business. There is no internet service within the Ananda Cottages compound, but several places close by offer free wireless service or for pay wired service.
Health Concerns
We recommend that you see your general practitioner at least 4 weeks or more in advance of your trip to Bali. Recommendations sometimes include hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus, and polio. Bali is not a high-risk area for malaria or dengue fever at present, but since vaccinations are so controversial, it is advisable to research it, or consult your doctor, and come to your own decision. It might be advisable to bring a prescription for an oral antibiotic that is good for stomach ailments. Restaurants are very clean, but there's always the possibility of "Bali Belly" which is a mild dysentery that passes in a few days. Filtered or bottled water is used in all but a few restaurants, and is available for drinking everywhere. It's highly advisable to drink and brush your teeth with bottled water. There are several international medical clinics in Ubud and the rest of Bali, should you need medical care. There are even doctors who make "house calls" for minor ailments. They don't accept health insurance, but their prices are a fraction of what they are in the USA. For major emergencies, you would most likely be evacuated to Singapore where there are world class health care facilities. If you would like to prepare for that possibility, you should purchase travelers' health insurance with evacuation coverage.
How to get around
Ubud is a great place for walking, but be mindful that roads and sidewalks are not built to US codes, so watch out for holes in sidewalks, broken curbs, etc.. You can easily get around Ubud on foot and it's a joy. For transportation from Ananda Cottages, which is about 1 to 3 km from different parts of Ubud, a car with driver can get you there for $2-3 USD, and can be split among friends. Bicycles and motorcycles are available for rent and they're inexpensive, but be careful, as driving is on the left side in Bali. It's not advisable or necessary to rent a car in Bali, because of the left hand driving. You may rent a car with driver for approximately $30 to $40 per day.
